1million $ prize for world's top teacher Tuesday 29th of October 2013 The Varkey GEMS Foundation will be launching a $1 million prize recognising the world’s greatest teacher. Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the prize will be given to a teacher chosen from among candidates nominated by individual nations around the world. The process will be audited by PriceWaterhouseCoopers. A panel of judges made up of former leaders from around the world, and prominent members of the community, as well as education experts and students, will judge each candidate before choosing a winner. The nominations for the prize, will open at the Global Education and Skills Forum in March 2014 and full details about the competition will be announced early next year. The prize is intended to recognise the importance of the teaching profession in the same way as the Nobel prize recognises achievement in other fields. "We want
